Translatory are three identical devices, based on a smartphone, closed - together with gooseneck microphone and a small speaker - in a wooden enclosure. The smartphone runs "Google Translate" app. Each of the devices translates a different pair of languages (polish-english, english-german, german-polish). Arranging the devices in a way that each microphone "hears" the sound of another device through a speaker creates an automatic "chinese whisper", in which one sentence is modified and morphed many times through translation. Using, or rather abusing the "Google Translate" app is a form of constructive hacking, creating new artistic value from an utility software. Hardware used for Translatory was recently utilised to create FEEDBOXES
Translatory were a part of AARON S multimedia opera, commissioned by Warsaw Autumn festival in 2016.
